Sunday, 5th February 2012, 2 pm

One of the most outstanding of musicians and performers from the Japanese traditional music scene, AUN has been amazingly up to the new level that no other artists have ever reached to.

With more than one thousand years of history in Japanese traditional music, and the beautiful and unique sounds of those instruments, has now spawned a very original fusion of today’s music, mixed with the tradition of old.

The result is AUN, Twin brothers Ryohei and Kohei Inoue, born in 1969, a versatile band where each member is a virtuoso in his own right, performs Taikos, Samisen and Fue (Japanese flute) appearing 4 times at CARNEGIE HALL, NY and has received EMMY AWARDS as a leading member of ONDEKOZA, a legendary Japanese taiko drum troupe with over 30 years experience of world touring. Ryohei and Kohei joined when they were 18 and performed more than 1000 shows in 16 countries during 12 years with that group.

In 2000, they launched their exploration of the highly individual style of music as a unit named AUN and have released two albums; “DASH” and “EAST” featuring TM Stevens as a bassist and producer, Nuno Bettencourt as a guitarist. AUN, in 2006 produced “Visit Japan” campaign song offered by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and took a real step to send their message overseas with Japanese traditional instruments sound.

In 2008, their experimentalism has yielded the brand new concept called AUN J-Classic Orchestra, of which music performed by purely Japanese traditional instruments such as Koto and Shakuhachi as well as Taiko, Samisen and Fue. The orchestra has released 3 albums called “Wagakki de Ghibli,” “Sakura,” and “Michi-Road”. Their performance is not only amazing in their execution of the musical compositions, it is also very exciting and entertaining as they encompass today’s Rock & Roll, Ambient, and Bass & Drum styles that are very popular with young and old. On the other side of the group’s activity, they are taking part in the ecoactivity project to regenerate forest and mountains in Japan and a portion of the revenues from their CD sales is donated to the project.

HIDE (Hideyuki Saito) joined the Taiko group “Kodo” in 1987. During his stay in Kodo with the band, he performed in over 150 cities around the world, and collaborated with various musicians and artists e.g. Sir Paul McCartney, Donal Lunny Band, Terumasa Hino, Seitaro Kuroda, Tamasaburo Bando, Kiyohiko Senba, and Hitoshi Komuro. Hide has also performed on the soundtracks of many Hollywood movies such as “HERO”, and attended the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo in 2001. More than 10,000 people enjoyed a fabulous performance during Kodo’s two-day concert at The Acropolis in Athens. Hide also joined on the theme song for the 2002 FIFA World Cup held in Japan/South Korea.

This is a co-production between The Japan Foundation and Vic Hua Hin. FREE OF CHARGE!

Sunday, 29th January 2012, 6 pm

Phra Lor is an epic love story, written in poetic verse by one of the kings during Thailand’s Ayudhya period. It tells the tale of a handsome, charming prince and his two beautiful admirers. Over the centuries there have been many songs composed using the poetry from this book as lyrics; and they have touched the nation’s heart deeply.

We would like to present some of these in this production, with a new interpretation, featuring a modern generation of artists playing both Thai and Western musical instruments. This version was taken on tour through the U.S. and Canada in 2011.

It tells the story of the famous Thai literary figure, Phra Lor, with original music in a setting of Buddhist philosophy. The contemporary version by musical director Anant Nakong – written, directed and performed by Patravadi Mejudhon – features the choreography of Slipathorn Award winner Manop Meejamrat.

The performance is in Thai and English! Tickets for 500 Baht (students 50 % discount) are now available at Vic Hua Hin: 032-827-814 to 815.

Saturday, 25th February 2011, 7.30 pm

Created in 2004 at the Fringe Festival at Patravadi Theatre Bangkok by the Singapore artist Tang Fu Kuen, “Pichet Klunchun and Myself” was presented again at La Fête 2006. This was an unprecedented success and contributed widely to Thai artist Pichet’s international recognition. Since its creation, it has been shown in nearly 100 cities around the world, such as Paris, Berlin, Taipei, Lisbon, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vienna, Rome, Warsaw, New York, London, Madrid, Djakarta, Yokohama, Mexico, etc. A refined and humorous dialogue, it is a ‘best-seller’ of Franco-Thai cooperation.

After a 7-year tour, both artists have decided to put an end to “Pichet Klunchun and Myself” where it all started… in Thailand at the new theatre of Patravadi Mejudhon, at Vic Hua Hin!

“When we met, we had no idea what would result from our meeting. I had only a few questions I wished to ask this dancer. The way we met determined the very nature and form of our cooperation. Jet-lag, the fascination of arriving in a city such as Bangkok, and monster traffic-jams prevented us from rehearsing. The context of the Festival made us decide to present a sort of dramatized review of our experiences. And thus, the ballet shows 2 artists who are completely unacquainted and have very different artistic backgrounds, trying to learn more of each other and of their work, in spite of the cultural abyss that separates them.” Jérôme Bel, Seoul, June 1, 2005.

Jérôme Bel is a cult figure of French contemporary dance, well-known for his humour and free spirited approach to his art. He was trained at Centre National de la Danse Contemporaine d’Angers, danced for several French and Italian choreographers before becoming assistant to Philippe Decouflé for the XVIth Winter Olympic Games’ opening ceremony, in Albertville (1992). Pichet Klunchun is one of the leaders of Thai contemporary dance. He was trained in Khon (classical dancing with traditional masks) by Chaiyot Khummanee, one of Thailand’s great masters of the art.

This is a co-production with La Fête, Bangkok, and Vic Hua Hin. Tickets for 900, 700 and 500 Baht (students 50 % discount) are now available at Vic Hua Hin: 032-827-814 to 815.

What is ‘SPACE’? This infinite question is answered through an American psychic, an army general, a science professor, and many more characters, in this comedy-tragedy that crosses the boundaries of what we think is real. There are no props, no sets, no costume changes…lone performer Timothy Mann just uses body and voice to tell a wild and crazy story about ‘Space’. There are plenty of laughs and enough strange turns, interactive moments and improvisation to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. ‘SPACE’ has been all over the world – UK, Japan, China, India, Turkey – and is constantly adapted wherever it goes. No two shows are ever the same.

Timothy Mann is an actor, writer, musician and video editor, based in the UK. He joined theatre company Nose2Nose in 2006, and has since produced a number of shows with other performers under the direction of Neil Farrelly. Shows include ‘CHEESE’, ‘The Three Hermanos’, and most recently, ‘SPACE’.

“Taste of Curry” – directed by Jarunun Phantachat and with all B-floor woman member cast, combine with live music and story about cooking along with chattering about life with all kind of languages: Thai, English, French, Gibberish and of course physical movement and live music to present all the taste of life!

B-floor Theatre – a physical theatre troupe from Bangkok – presents ‘Taste of Curry,’ a gentl production after its outrageous predecessors. Here Jaa Phantachat, a top director of B-Floor, invites you to a delicate atmosphere that penetrates slowly and deeply. Jaa’s past works, including ‘Shatter Room No. 0′, ‘Guru Theater’, and ‘Bangkok Molocules’ always won the audience with her signature – deep and biting humor.

Come explore your taste perception. Look at life through the Taste of Curry and other ingredients in this much-more-than-3D contemporary performance. You too will get to taste, comment, and express your feelings about the taste of curry being cooked in front of you by female members of B-Floor: Dujdao Vadhanapakorn, Ornanon Thaisriwong, Nana Dakin, and Sasapi Siriwanij.

Be prepared for a story of various tastes that will be chopped, prepped, mixed, stirred, minced, an boiled. Like food ingredients, audience may be mixed around with the performers and the performance as the ‘cooking’ goes. But this is no instant food. It’s a domestic kitchen process where raw materials transform into edible dishes. An ordinary kitchen where many relationships begin and weave many lives. An eating context that can define your life as much as your native language.

A multi-lingual contemporary performance with language, food, music, and body, through the eyes of a contemporary theater artist, outside the bounds of convention. Stories to be told, your most and least favorite food that reflect your identity. You are what you eat!

Tickets for 500 Baht (students 50 % discount) are now available at Vic Hua Hin: 032-827-814 to 815.

This special evening of Object Theatre includes three pieces: “The Blue Table” and “Jonathan” by Golden Delicious Theatre and “How Lovely” by Yael Rasooly – all from Israel.

Ari Teperberg and Inbal Yomtovian are the Golden Delicious Theatre. They create characters, stories, images and creatures with an engaging, comic perspective, using a handful of objects with a delicate touch. “We create our theatre at home, in the kitchen or in the living room, using our personal belongings. We play with whatever comes to hand.”

“The Blue Table” shows pictures from the life of the giant squid, the wild swan, the blue whale, and a garden snail. A zoological Object Theatre piece creating a wild and lively world through synthetic means with a comic and magical perspective.

“Jonathan”: Love, hate, vengeance, lust, and sex – all in an epos that tells the tale of Jonathan, a green apple born to red parents, who strikes out on a journey crossing seas and continents, only to find that the apple does not fall far from the tree. A wild, cinematic piece for apples, a set of knives, and a cutting board.

Yael Rasooly, the third performer of tonight’s performance, is a director, actress, puppeteer and singer. She was trained in classical singing and also studied theatre design in London. Since 2006 Yael has been creating independent theatre work that has been invited to international festivals all around the globe. She appeared in last year’s Fringe Festival in Bangkok and Hua Hin with “Paper Cut”.

Yael Rasooly’s performance is called “How Lovely”. A childhood memory unravels and comes to life through personified objects and a human-doll. From beneath a sweet musical tale, another story emerges. An unbroken circle, a music lesson that takes an unexpected turn, and a web of family secrets, are all woven together in ahumorous and frightening piece!

This evening is supported by the Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Israel, Bangkok.
Tickets are 900, 700 and 500 Baht (students 50 % discount), now available at Vic Hua Hin: 032-827-814 to 815.
